EU, US and UK shoe size conversion

To convert your European shoe size to US or UK sizing, use the chart below: an EU 38 corresponds to a US women's 7.5, a US men's 5.5 and a UK 5. These are indicative conversions and can vary slightly between brands.

Sambottes made-to-measure models are unisex, so the chart shows both US conversions side by side — women's and men's — while UK sizes are numerically identical for both. Our boots come in half sizes, from EU 38 to 43.5. If you are between two sizes, measure your foot length in centimetres — the last column gives the closest match — and choose the size up rather than down. Every pair is then cut to your calf measurement and shaft height, so the size only sets the foot. Still unsure? Write to us before ordering: the atelier would rather check with you than cut blind.

How do I convert my European size to US or UK?

Find your European size in the first column — that is the size you pick in the configurator — then read across for the US and UK equivalents. US conversions differ between women's and men's sizing; UK sizes are numerically the same for both.

How do I measure my foot length?

  1. Place a sheet of paper on the floor against a wall and stand on it with your heel touching the wall.
  2. Mark the tip of your longest toe with a pencil held upright.
  3. Measure the distance from the edge of the sheet (the heel) to the mark: that is your foot length in centimetres.
  4. Repeat on the other foot — they often differ by a few millimetres — and keep the larger value, ideally measured at the end of the day.

Why do conversions differ between brands?

There is no single standard: every maker builds its sizes on its own lasts, and the US and UK scales only approximately line up with European sizes. US and UK half sizes do not cover the same foot lengths as European half sizes — hence the differences from one chart to another. The table above reflects the most common industry conversion, not a millimetre-exact promise: use it to orient yourself, then your calf and shaft measurements do the rest of the work on a made-to-measure model.

What if I am between two sizes?

A made-to-measure pair is cut to your measurements, so it cannot be returned for a simple change of mind (French consumer code, art. L221-28 3°). The shoe size itself is still just a size, not a measurement — if you hesitate between two, mention it in the note to the atelier when you order.

Your calf and shaft measurements are checked before any leather is cut: if anything looks inconsistent, the atelier contacts you rather than producing blind. The same care applies to sizing — a question before cutting is better than a boot that does not fit.
